Return to the MirrorMIRRORS OF SELF
PRIVACY NOTICE

Your story should not have to carry your name.

Effective September 10, 2026 · Public Beta 3

Mirrors of Self is designed so you can receive a reflection without creating an account or identifying yourself. A recovery copy stays in your browser on your device. Before entering your first answer, you decide whether your finished scan stays off our study database or is contributed anonymously to improve the Mirror.

The two ways to use the scan

Private scan

The two-choice and basic phrase-matching paths process your answers in your browser. If you choose “Use AI to read my words,” your written reflection is sent through our server to Groq for interpretation. This is separate from contributing to our study. Groq does not retain inference content by default, but may retain it temporarily for reliability or abuse monitoring under its data policy. We do not intentionally log the reflection or AI response on our server. A recovery copy is stored in this browser on this device so a refresh or new publication does not erase unfinished work or the result you were reviewing. It is not sent to or saved in our study database.

Anonymous contribution

If you choose to contribute, we save the finished self-portrait, optional recent moment, any quick choices, scan version, and resulting Mirror in our study database without asking for your name, email, account, precise location, or device fingerprint. A separate recovery copy also stays in this browser on this device. Obvious email addresses, phone numbers, links, and social handles are removed before the server contribution is stored.

Free writing can still identify somebody if it includes a real name, workplace, location, or unusually specific event. Please leave those details out. We cannot promise that automatic removal will recognize every identifying detail inside ordinary language.

On-device recovery copy

The recovery copy may include your selected viewer, written self-portrait, recent moment, direct choices, result stage, Mirror confirmations, and corrections. It stays in this browser’s local storage and is not included in anonymous activity totals.

You can remove it from the result screen or by beginning another reflection. Clearing this browser’s site data also removes it. Anyone who can use the same browser profile on this device may be able to reopen it, so remove the recovery copy when using a shared device.

Anonymous activity totals

We count a small set of actions—such as a scan beginning, a result opening, an optional moment being used, feedback being submitted, or the share action completing. A broad link label may tell us that a scan began from a TikTok, Facebook, direct, or other campaign link; we do not store the full referring page. These counts are stored only by day, event, and scan version. They do not contain your written answers, email, a session identifier, IP address, or a trail connecting one action to another.

Anonymous feedback

Feedback is submitted without a name or email. If you chose a private scan, only the feedback is sent to us—not the reflection stored on your device. If you chose anonymous contribution, the feedback may be connected to that anonymous submission so we can understand what helped or missed. We will not publish your exact words as a testimonial without separate permission.

Book and project updates stay separate

If you enter an email to hear about the book, deeper app, or Let the Mirror Speak, that email is stored in a separate mailing-list record. The email submission does not include your scan identifier, answers, Mirror result, or feedback. We use it only for the updates you requested and do not sell it.

You may ask to be removed by emailing mirrorsofselfbyramone@gmail.com. Future emails will also include an unsubscribe method when mailing begins.

Speech, hosting, and necessary processing

Mirrors of Self does not save audio. If you use speech-to-text, your browser, operating system, or speech provider may process the audio under its own terms. Like any hosted website, infrastructure providers may temporarily process technical request information needed to deliver and secure the service. We do not add that information to scan contributions, feedback, book-interest records, or anonymous activity totals.

Retention, withdrawal, and security

Anonymous scan contributions and feedback are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or converted into totals that no longer contain the written submission. Daily activity totals may be kept for up to 36 months. Mailing-list information remains until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.

While the anonymous contribution identifier remains in this browser’s recovery copy, a contributor can use “Remove my contributed reflection.” Because anonymous submissions are not connected to a name or account, we may be unable to find a particular submission by identity after the recovery copy is removed.

We use access controls, limited collection, prepared database requests, request validation, and security headers to reduce risk. No internet service can promise perfect security.

Adults only

This beta is intended for people 18 and older because Mirror results may use direct adult relationship and sexual language. Do not submit another person’s private identifying information.
